Facts and Figures

The DFG currently funds 262 Collaborative Research Centres (CRC) with a total of €882 million (incl. programme allowances) for 2025 (figures as of 1 October 2025). This accounts for approximately 23 % of the DFG’s total budget.

167 of these Centres are primarily based at single universities, whereas 95 CRC/Transregio are mainly based at up to three universities. 13 new Collaborative Research Centres have been established, among them seven new CRC/Transregios. The 262 Collaborative Research Centers are located at 58 coordinating universities.

Of the 262 Collaborative Research Centres currently running, 30 (11.5 %) are located in the field of humanities and social sciences, 45 (17.2 %) in engineering sciences, 77 (29.4 %) in the natural sciences and 110 (42 %) in the life sciences.
