The DFG currently funds 257 Collaborative Research Centres (CRC) with a total of €909 million (incl. programme allowances) for 2026 (figures as of 1 April 2026). This accounts for approximately 23 % of the DFG’s total budget.
167 of these Centres are primarily based at single universities, whereas 90 CRC/Transregio are mainly based at up to three universities. 9 new Collaborative Research Centres have been established, among them one new CRC/Transregios. The 257 Collaborative Research Centers are located at 57 coordinating universities.
Of the 257 Collaborative Research Centres currently running, 29 (11.3 %) are located in the field of humanities and social sciences, 43 (16.7 %) in engineering sciences, 72 (28 %) in the natural sciences and 113 (44 %) in the life sciences.
