Recognising Outstanding Research Achievements

The DFG awards a variety of scientific prizes. These include the most important research funding award in Germany, the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize. Awards such as the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize are specifically designed to encourage early career researchers and support them in their career development. Other prizes honour research work in specific disciplines, and there are also two prizes for international cooperation: the Eugen and Ilse Seibold Prize for cooperation between Germany and Japan and the Copernicus Award for collaboration between Germany and Poland. The Communicator Award recognises public outreach by a researcher.

This section presents the prizewinners together with each recipient's core research areas and curriculum vitae, and outlines the history of the various prizes.

Prizes awarded in the past

The DFG has awarded other scientific prizes that were either non-recurring or where funding has expired.
