DFG launches modernised platform for searching funded projects

The information system GEPRIS (https://gepris.dfg.de/?lang=en(externer Link)) provides information on projects funded under almost all DFG funding programmes and is a widely used source of information for the research community, policymakers and the public. The relaunch has expanded GEPRIS’s content and comprehensively modernised the platform from a technical perspective. The new version offers improved navigation, more powerful search functions and a modern, accessible design, while expanded project information makes DFG-funded research even more transparent. 

What information is included?

GEPRIS provides a comprehensive overview of approved research projects, the researchers and institutions involved, and the subject classifications assigned to each project. In the new version, researchers involved in projects are shown together with the research institutions at which they carried out each project. It also shows the involvement of national and international partners. 

The presentation of project results has also been improved. Publication references extracted from final reports are now largely presented in a standardised format, for example, and if a Document Object Identifier (DOI) has been provided or identified by the DFG for a publication, it links directly to the publication. Where applicants have deposited their report in a publicly accessible repository, as recommended by the DFG, a direct link to the repository is also provided.

What technical improvements have been introduced?

The search functions have been significantly enhanced. Context-specific filters – such as by subject area, funding instrument and international context – enable targeted searches for projects, researchers and institutions. Both the visual presentation and the structure of the content have been redesigned and significantly improved. Search results are displayed responsively in two languages (German and English) across all devices and are designed to be accessible. 

Where does information come from?

For the past 25 years, the DFG has made information on the research projects it funds freely available online through GEPRIS. The project information presented is taken from the respective funding proposals and is published only after undergoing a multi-stage quality assurance process. All textual content, such as project descriptions and summaries of final reports, is provided by the applicants themselves.
