20 Years of Cooperation between the DFG and the São Paulo Research Foundation FAPESP
Guidelines for continuous funding opportunities for joint research programmes between Germany and the State of São Paulo, Brazil, have been updated
Within the scope of the 20th anniversary of their Cooperation Agreement, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) and the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) inform about their ongoing Standing Open Procedure (SOP) for the submission of joint German-Brazilian proposals.
Joint proposals may be submitted at any time for both, individual projects (DFG-FAPESP Research Grants) and coordinated programmes, such as Research Units, International Research Training Groups and Collaborative Research Centres (DFG-FAPESP Coordinated Programmes).
Specific proposal preparation instructions which comprise all relevant information for applicants to the DFG and the FAPESP on the joint individual and coordinated project proposal formats and mechanisms have been updated and may be found in the following documents:
These opportunities follow the general DFG funding lines and budgets. Please note that there are no additional funds available and proposals must succeed on the strengths of their scientific quality in comparison with other proposals in the respective research areas. Funding of joint research projects is contingent upon positive assessment by both funding organisations.
Please note that these funding opportunities focus on the funding of joint research grant projects and coordinated programmes. Researchers who are at an early stage of their cooperation with Brazilian partners may apply under the DFG´s programme “(interner Link)”. Please contact us for individual guidance if you are interested in this funding scheme.
Equity and Diversity
The DFG strongly welcomes proposals from researchers of all genders and sexual identities, from different ethnic, cultural, religious, ideological or social backgrounds, from different career stages, types of universities and research institutions, and with disabilities or chronic illness.
Good research Practice
According to a resolution of the DFG General Assembly, DFG funding may only be awarded to research institutions that have implemented the guidelines laid down in the Code of Conduct for Safeguarding Good Research Practice in their own regulations. The management of your institution is responsible for implementing the guidelines in a legally binding manner. In order to avoid delays in the disbursement of funding, please verify implementation within your institution in good time. For information regarding the implementation, please refer to the Research Integrity Portal. If you have any questions on this subject, please contact the Research Integrity team at the DFG Head Office.
