The report Exzellenzstrategie des Bundes und der Länder – Statistischer Bericht zu den Förderentscheidungen zu Exzellenzclustern vom Mai 2025 describes the draft and proposal phases through to the funding decisions in the second competition for Clusters of Excellence. In addition to key figures on the regional and disciplinary distribution of the projects, it looks at aspects such as the interdisciplinary nature of the clusters.

Drawing on internal analyses conducted by the DFG Head Office, it also examines gender equality among the individuals playing key roles in the clusters and explains the composition of the review panels.

The report follows on from the statistical report published in 2019 on the funding decisions for Clusters of Excellence in the first round of the Excellence Strategy competition (ExStra I), using the data presented in the earlier report as a basis for comparison where appropriate.
