Digital information infrastructures are increasingly shaping, supporting and transforming research processes while at the same time continuing to evolve through research practice itself. However, there is still no systematic understanding of where and how research and infrastructure interact, the forms that this mutual interdependence takes or the effects it produces.

The aim of the dialogue is to gain a better understanding of the interfaces between research and infrastructure and to identify concrete forms of interaction. The focus will be on questions relating to cooperation between different stakeholders, emerging roles and role distributions, and the development of sustainable, high-performing infrastructures. The findings from these discussions will be used to develop recommendations for action for the research community, infrastructure facilities and research funding organisations. Two aspects of this topic merit particular attention: firstly the interaction between research and infrastructure in practice, and secondly the stakeholders, contexts and conditions that shape the collaborative development of infrastructures.
