A delegation from the Vietnamese National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED) and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) visited the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) in Bonn on 27 November 2025. The visit focused on an exchange of views on current developments in Vietnam’s research system, the status of bilateral cooperation and possible perspectives for intensifying collaboration.

The DFG provided advisory support to NAFOSTED during its establishment and has worked closely with the Vietnamese funding organisation ever since. Discussions between the delegation and representatives of the DFG addressed institutional structures, funding programmes and strategic priorities on both sides. The exchange contributed to a deeper mutual understanding, providing an important basis on which to identify future approaches to cooperation and further optimise existing coordination processes.
As such, the visit was a valuable impetus for the continuation of scientific cooperation between Germany and Vietnam and underlined the importance of in-person dialogue for successful bilateral research funding.
