Research Careers and Indo-German Cooperation: Events in Mumbai and Chennai

On 7 October 2026, nearly 150 participants attended the workshop “Would Germany Be a Part of Your Research Career?” at the IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Mumbai. Representatives of several German universities presented opportunities for academic careers and research stays in Germany. DFG funding programmes were also introduced. Professor Joyee Ghosh, an ambassador of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, and Professor Malay Patra, an alumnus of Ruhr University Bochum, shared further perspectives on research careers and experiences in Germany.

On the following day, 8 October, DFG India and the Saxon Science Liaison Office India jointly hosted a roundtable in Chennai. The meeting brought together representatives of Indian universities and research institutions to explore opportunities for cooperation with Saxony. Discussions focused on the research strengths of Saxon universities and research institutions, DFG funding opportunities for postdoctoral researchers and possibilities for developing joint Indo-German research projects.

Both events offered opportunities for exchanging information, establishing new contacts and exploring future research cooperation between India and Germany.
