Europa Prize

Since 2010 the DFG has awarded the Europa Prize to three winners of the national science competition "Jugend forscht". In addition to the prize money of €1000, each winner is given the opportunity to prepare for the European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS). In this way the DFG is underlining the importance of an international outlook to a successful research career.

Part of the prize is a mentoring programme in which the DFG organises and funds contacts between the prizewinners and proven early career researchers. These mentors prepare the young researchers for the EU competition and also accompany them to the event, which takes place in a different country each year. The mentoring programme is designed to encourage lasting links between generations of researchers.
