DFG Supported Three-Day International Conference on “Schopenhauer and Ecology” in Delhi
The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) was among the supporting institutions for the international conference titled “Schopenhauer and Ecology: With Special Reference to the Upaniṣads and Indian Philosophy”, held from 26 - 28 February 2026 at Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi. Organised by the Department of Philosophy, Deshbandhu College, in collaboration with the Indian Division of the Schopenhauer Society (IDSS) and co-supported by the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), the three-day event offered a vibrant platform for scholars and researchers from around the world working on Schopenhauer and Indian philosophy.
With 20 invited lectures and over 25 paper presentations by participants from India and abroad, the conference fostered rich academic exchange and opened new avenues for exploring the intersections between Schopenhauer’s philosophy, ecological thought and Indian philosophical traditions, particularly the Upaniṣads. Invited German participants were Prof. Matthias Koßler (Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz), Prof. Lore Hühn (Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg), Dr. Thomas Regehly (Schopenhauer Society), Dr. Moria Ben Barak Reißmann, Dr. Reetu Bhatthacharjee (Universität Münster) and Dr. Erik Eschmann (Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz).
At the invitation of Dr. Aarti Barua, Director of IDSS, Dr. Vaibhav Agarwal and Mrs. Urmila Gupta represented the DFG Office India at the conference. They also briefed participants on various opportunities for international collaboration available through DFG funding programmes, encouraging researchers to engage in future joint research initiatives.
