Evaluation of Funding Programme: Information Infrastructures for Research Data

The study "Evaluation of Funding Programme: Information Infrastructures for Research Data" investigates whether the goals of the programme set up in 2013 following a pilot phase to fund innovative, high-performing information systems for research have been achieved.

It examined the suitability of the review process; the project process; the sustainability of the funded projects; and the scientific added value generated by the programme.

The study was based on 186 funded or rejected projects, for which 213 proposals were submitted within the funding programme up until mid-2017, or in response to the calls published in 2010 and 2015 ("Research Data in Practice"). A quantitative content analysis of the review meeting minutes allowed the review criteria used to make funding decisions in this programme to be systematically identified and distinguished according to relevance. The analysis was supplemented by ten qualitative case studies, carried out and evaluated by the Institute for Innovation and Technology (iit) at VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH, Berlin.

The programme evaluation was supported by a commission of the Committee on Scientific Library Services and Information Systems (AWBI), which developed proposals for the ongoing development of the programme.
