DFG and DST launch funding initiative in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics

The German Research Foundation and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, have launched a Call for Proposals for Indo-German projects in the disciplines of Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. Researchers from India and Germany are invited to work out and submit proposals starting immediately; the submission deadline will be Wednesday, 20 November 2019.

“This call responds to the ever growing demand for synchronized project funding in the scientific communities of our two countries,” Matthias Kiesselbach, Director of DFG India Office says. “Indo-German collaboration in basic science has come a long way. Germans now know where to find the top institutions in India, and Indians have recognized that the U.K. and the U.S. are not the only scientific powerhouses with which collaboration makes sense. In fact, in many quarters of science, researchers in India and Germany have built up long-standing relationships.”

The Call in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics will further strengthen these relationships. But it also explicitly invites young researchers to set up new collaborations. The funding available under the Call can be used for three yearlong projects; it can finance staff, travel, consumables, workshops – in short, all that is needed for full-fledged scientific projects.
