Various aspects of equity and diversity are part of the application and review process for coordinated programmes such as, Centres for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences, Clinical Research Units, Clusters of Excellence, Collaborative Research Centres, Research Impulses, Research Training Groups and Research Units. 

With the aim of promoting equity and diversity in research, relevant measures are requested in project proposals and are discussed during the review process and within decision-making bodies. The same applies to measures taken by research institutions to promote gender equality for researchers, diversity in research and the compatibility of research and family (including care).

Great importance is attached in the proposal submission and review processes to information on the participation of female researchers, on network- or consortium-specific equity and diversity measures (e.g. awareness-raising workshops for project participants, career development measures for female researchers and diversity-promoting measures) and on the support provided by universities in ensuring the compatibility of research and family. Due to the complex legal framework, additional childcare options can often only be implemented through central university administrations, so information on these should be made transparently available. Proposals must also contain an explanation of how the DFG’s Research-Oriented Equity and Diversity Standards(interner Link) are applied at the applicant university/universities. 

Recommendations from the review process concerning the participation of female researchers or the need for equity and diversity measures are communicated by the DFG to the respective projects or institutions, and progress in this regard is addressed and evaluated during any subsequent review of renewal proposals.
