National Research Fair for Young Researchers (NTTM 2011) opened

(29.06.11) The 11th National Research Fair for Young Researchers (NTTM 2011) is being held in the grounds of the All-Russia Exhibition Centre (VVC) in Moscow from 28 June to 2 July. During this time, over 1,000 young researchers from 59 different Russian regions will showcase 750 ideas and projects. At the invitation of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation (MON), the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) has also given a presentation on its organisation and its funding programmes for early-career researchers.

Parallel to the exhibition of prizewinning exhibits by young researchers aged 12-30 from the fields of medicine, ecology, agriculture, electronics, physics, chemistry, robotics and IT, presentations and round tables will tackle current issues facing early career researchers.

At the booth belonging to the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Education and Science, particular emphasis is being placed on international cooperation with Germany in promoting early-career researchers. The DFG and DAAD have also been invited to participate in the events with their own presentations. Jörn Achterberg and Galina Melnikova provided an introduction to the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and the activities of its Moscow office, in which they focused particularly on the DFG’s numerous funding activities aimed at promoting young researchers. Several dozen biology and biochemistry students are, for example, currently achieving their doctorates through two International Research Training Groups at Moscow’s Lomonosov University. This joint doctoral training in German and Russian research groups is funded jointly by the DFG and its partner organisation the RFBR, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.
