To be eligible to vote candidates must meet personal qualifications in accordance with § 2 Nr. 2 WahlO and be affiliated with a voting centre in accordance with § 2 Nr. 3 WahlO.

Individuals personally qualified to vote are:

  • researchers who have completed their degree and have successfully passed their oral doctoral exam (or a recognised comparable degree examination) before the first day of the voting period and
  • professors (including junior professors)

provided they are working in scientific or academic research on, but not limited to, the first day of the voting period.

  • at a research institution that is a member organisation of the DFG (§ 9 Nr. 1 WahlO)
  • at a research institution that was granted the request to set up a voting centre in accordance with § 9 Nr. 2 WahlO (deadline for request: 31st July 2022). The decision which requests to set up a voting centre has certain preconditions (cf. §§ 9 Nr. 2, 2 Nr. 4 c), b) WahlO) and will be made in autumn 2022 or
  • somewhere else but the researcher has been granted the right to vote on an individual basis and are therefore affiliated with the DFG voting centre (cf. §§ 2 Nr.4, 9 Nr. 2 c) WahlO). In order to be eligible for the right to vote on an individual basis the researcher must be permitted to publish freely the findings of their academic research and must be integrated in the German research system.
