In the course of the event, researchers from both countries presented their research projects in the field of electrical engineering, with an emphasis on high and ultra-high frequency technology, signal processing and sensor networks. Furthermore, attendees used the opportunity to exchange views on fields of work that are of common interest and constitute potential areas for future bilateral initiatives.

Among the projects presented were German-Colombian initiatives which are currently being jointly funded by the DFG and Colciencias. The two agencies have been working together since 2015 and now fund three projects in the field of electrical engineering.

Dr. Kathrin Winkler, Head of the DFG Office Latin America, presented funding options for bilateral research projects as well as the activity profile of the liaison office in São Paulo. On the sidelines of the workshop, she spoke with colleagues from Colciencias and representatives of various Colombian universities about the possibilities of future joint research funding.

The approximately 20 workshop participants from Germany were from the Brandenburg University of Technology, the University of Potsdam, the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and the Technical Universities of Dresden, Ilmenau, Darmstadt and Hamburg. On the Colombian side, 25 researchers from Universidade Nacional, Escola Colombiana de Engenharia, Universidade do Norte, Universidade ICESI, Pontifícia Universidade Bolivariana, Universidade Sergio Arboleda, Universidade de Caldas, Universidade Industrial de Santander and Pontifícia Universidade Javeriana were represented. Prof. Diego Méndez Chavez from the faculty of Electronics at Universidade Javeriana planned and organised the workshop. Representatives of the German embassy in Colombia and of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) also attended the event.
