The DFG supports international research cooperation in all of its funding programmes and with a multitude of instruments. Regardless of the specific type of project funding involved, researchers may apply for necessary funds in addition to the project funding itself. Special lines of funding are listed below.
Interner LinkInitiation of International Collaboration
Applicants interested in establishing collaborative scientific relationships with partners abroad may apply for funding for trips abroad, guest visits or for exploratory workshops.
Interner LinkInternational Scientific Events
The DFG provides funding to conduct scientific events in Germany.
Interner LinkMercator Fellows
As part of the modularisation of the DFG’s funding programmes, a Mercator Fellow module has been developed. The current Mercator Programme has been incorporated into this module.
Interner LinkJoint Proposal Submission with Austria and Switzerland (D-A-CH)
Within the scope of D-A-CH collaboration, an agreement has been signed between the DFG and its partner organisations, the FWF and the SNSF, regarding the mutual opening of the respective funding programmes ("Lead Agency" process) to simplify the mobility of researchers and the execution of cross-border research projects.
Interner LinkCooperation with Developing Countries
The DFG enables research cooperations between researchers in Germany and in developing countries through research grants for individual projects.
Interner LinkMiddle East Collaboration
Within the framework of individual grants, the DFG supports German-Israeli collaborative projects, sometimes involving additional partners from Palestine or from Israel’s neighbouring countries (Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria).
Interner LinkGerman-Israeli Project Cooperation
Under this programme of excellence, launched by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) in 1997, the six leading universities in Israel and the Weizmann Institute of Science are each eligible to submit two project proposals each year.
Interner LinkMax Kade Foundation Fellowship Programme
In addition to numerous international funding instruments, the DFG also supports the Max-Kade-Foundation with their selection of applicants for a fellowship program.
