Former Vice President dies shortly after leaving office

Matthias Koenig stepped down as a DFG Vice President only at the end of December. The Heidelberg-based macro-sociologist passed away on 12 January at the age of 54.

10th EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation

The European Union is currently setting the course for the next Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP10) from 2028 onwards. The DFG welcomes together with the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) and the Leibniz Association the EU Commission’s decision to maintain a standalone programme of research and innovation funding. However, they call to improve this programme in the further legislative process.

Approval granted for new Research Units

DFG-Förderprogramm: Forschungsgruppen

The DFG is establishing nine new Research Units and one new Centre for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences. This was decided by the Joint Committee on recommendation of the Senate. Research topics range from chronic liver disease through to the legal consequences of automated decision-making. In addition, nine Research Units and one Centre for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences will be extended.
