Joint calls and new bilateral funding programs from DFG and NSFC, reports on SGC sponsored workshops and summer schools, and the latest news about Sino-German cooperation in science and research.
The Sino-German Center for Research Promotion in Beijing
The DFG can look back on a long and successful collaboration with its Chinese partners. This scientific cooperation between Germany and China has increased in significance as China has advanced economically.
This is due in significant part to the efforts of the Sino-German Center for Research Promotion (SGC), which was founded jointly by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) in 2000, and which has received 50% of its funding from each of these organisations since. The SGC is unique in its status as a German-Chinese joint venture in research promotion.
The SGC has its own funding budget, which it uses to support specific activities relating to Chinese-German scientific cooperation. These activities include bilateral workshops, symposia, summer schools, cooperation groups and research projects, as well as exchange programmes for early career researchers. Information on the SGC and the funding opportunities it offers can be found on the SGC website.
The DFG and NSFC each provide a Director and Vice Director to the SGC. The internal directorate, which comprises four people, perform organisational leadership functions and work with their sponsoring organisations to process proposals. Furthermore, the German side of the SGC also serves as a local DFG contact person in China, assisting individual researchers as well as the various partner organisations.
