The DFG’s Research-Oriented Equity and Diversity Standards define personnel and structural standards for sustainable gender equality and the promotion of diversity in the research and higher education landscape. DFG member organisations have committed to uphold these standards on a voluntary basis since 2008.

In 2022, the DFG General Assembly decided to expand the focus on diversity in the text of the “Research-Oriented Standards on Gender Equality” in order to advance the equal participation of all people in science and the humanities and in research, also from an intersectional perspective. In addition, the implementation process(Download) for the Research-Oriented Equity and Diversity Standards was revised, particularly regarding reporting procedures and the extension of the remit to include further aspects of diversity. 

On 28 June 2023, the DFG General Assembly adopted guidelines(Download) concerning an integrated report on the DFG’s Research-Oriented Equity and Diversity Standards for the 2022–2025 reporting cycle. Universities were to submit an integrated report of up to ten pages to the DFG in September 2024.

The Working Group on Research-Oriented Equity and Diversity Standards supports and advises member organisations on implementing these standards. See the following page for details of the composition of the Working Group(interner Link).
