(18.11.13) The annual meeting of the Mexican Geophysical Society was held this year from 3 - 8 November in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) was represented with a stand at the event where congress attendees could obtain information about the options for research visits and participation in a collaboration with Germany.

On Thursday 7 November, the DFG organised an information session about opportunities for research in Germany: "Funding programmes and fellowships". The session was chaired by Laura Redondo from the DFG Office Latin America and Prof. Christina Siebe, Liaison Scientist for the DFG and professor at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), Susanne Faber, Marketing Officer for the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and Prof. Claudia Treviño, from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and also a professor at UNAM, gave presentations. Each of them talked about the funding programmes at their institution. The audience then had the opportunity to ask questions and make comments.

Professor Siebe also gave a lecture on the 'Impacto de las actividades humanas en las funciones ecológicas de los suelos del Valle de México' (the impact of human activity on the ecological function of the soil in the Valley of Mexico").
