Funding Atlas 2015
Key Figures Relating to Publicly Funded Research in Germany
In the Funding Atlas 2015, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation, DFG) presents a wide range of key figures relating to publicly funded research in Germany in comprehensive, subject-by-subject form. In addition to the usual analyses in this report series, the Funding Atlas 2015 includes a special focus on the Excellence Initiative, sponsored by the federal and state governments, thus contributing to an interim evaluation of this important source of funding for German research.
The reported figures describe changes in relation to Excellence Initiative universities as well as the system as a whole. Regional profiles and maps depicting them have always been a fixed analytical feature of the atlas series. In a further development, instead of districts and cities, which are small in area, the atlas now looks at larger structures in the form of so-called 'spatial development regions'. This makes regional focuses more visible. The consideration of technical aspects which generally play an important role in the interpretation of research-related key figures has also been expanded. For the first time the atlas also considers the interdisciplinarity of research.
