(05/08/13) Within the framework of talks between the German and Argentinian governments on science and technology, an agreement was concluded on 8 May in Berlin between the DFG and the Argentinian Ministry for Science, Technology and Productive Innovation (MINCYT) in the presence of the Federal Minister for Research, Prof. Dr. Johanna Wanka. The agreement was signed for Argentina by the Minister for Research Prof. Dr. Lino Barañao, and by Prof. Dr. Christine Windbichler for the DFG.

The desire to enhance research cooperation between Germany and Argentina forms the background to this agreement. Researchers in both countries are expressing a growing interest in working more closely on joint projects.

The DFG and Argentina have a long history of friendly cooperation.
The DFG has worked closely with CONICET, the National Research and Technology Council of Argentina since 1987 under a successful agreement which is currently demonstrating an impressive growth rate.

The DFG sees the conclusion of the agreement with MINCYT as an important step forwards for cooperation with Argentina as this agreement can substantially broaden the potential for collaborative projects and therefore serve the interests of both research communities.
