About T-AP

The Trans-Atlantic Platform for Social Sciences and Humanities (T-AP) is an unprecedented collaboration between social sciences and humanities and research funders from South America, North America, Europe and Africa. T-AP aims to enhance the ability of funders, research organizations and researchers to engage in transnational dialogue and collaboration. T-AP works to identify common challenges and promote a culture of collaboration in social science and humanities (SSH) research by offering joint research calls in areas of strong potential for international collaboration.

T-AP-Governance

The T-AP Forum is the ultimate decision-making body and is consisting of T-AP members. The T-AP Forum members aim to:

  • to enhance high quality trans-Atlantic co-operation in the Social Sciences and the Humanities
  • to acknowledge the importance of international collaboration in exploiting the potential of research for significantly enhancing our knowledge and understanding of human thought and behaviour in the past present and future
  • to share and transfer knowledge and good practices
  • to promote multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary Social Science and Humanities research on topics of medium and long-term interest
  • to learn from, enhance and expand existing research networks
  • to strengthen research capabilities and to encourage scientific excellence through interactions of scholars
  • to enhance and facilitate research networks and programmes related to Social Sciences and Humanities

T-AP Co-chairs

The Forum is overseen by chairs, who are selected from amongst the membership of the T-AP Forum, unless decided otherwise in a meeting of the T-AP Forum. As much as possible, Forum chairs must represent both sides of the Atlantic.

Currently, T-AP co-chairs are:

  • Damien Smith, UKRI-Economic and Social Research Council (UKRI-ESRC/UK)
  • Connie McManus, Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP/Brazil)
  • Ted Hewitt, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC/Canada)

T-AP Coordination Team

The T-AP Coordination Team is composed of members from the co-chairs’ funding organizations and they act as the formal coordinator of the platform. Currently, the responsibility of the coordination is shared between UKRI-ESRC (Manija Kamal), the FAPESP (Kavita Miadaira Hamza) and SSHRC (François Pelletier and Julia Warnes).
