Decision on New Clusters of Excellence
Announcement of results at live-streamed press conference
At the end of September in Bonn, a decision will be reached on the Clusters of Excellence to be funded within Germany’s Excellence Strategy.
On 25 and 26 September 2018, the members of the international Committee of Experts appointed by the Joint Science Conference (GWK) will discuss the 88 proposals for new Clusters of Excellence on the basis of the international review sessions already carried out. The final selection will be made on 27 September in the Excellence Commission, which brings together the members of the Committee of Experts and science and research ministers from the federal and state governments.
The meeting of the Excellence Commission will last into the afternoon of 27 September. The results will be announced as soon as possible after the conclusion of the meeting, at a press conference that will be live-streamed on the internet.
The press conference will be held at the Wissenschaftszentrum in Bonn and is expected to begin at approximately 4:00 pm; unfortunately, it is not possible to specify a more exact time.

At the press conference, the selection results will be announced by Anja Karliczek, Federal Minister of Education and Research and Chair of the GWK, and Prof. Dr. Eva Quante-Brandt, Science Senator for Bremen and Deputy Chair of the GWK. DFG President Prof. Dr. Peter Strohschneider and the Chair of the German Council of Science and Humanities, Prof. Dr. Martina Brockmeier, will explain the process and procedures by which the selection was made.
The names and university locations of the chosen Clusters of Excellence will be announced in a complete list, which will be published at the start of the press conference on the websites of the DFG (Externer Linkwww.dfg.de) and the German Council of Science and Humanities (Externer Linkwww.wissenschaftsrat.de), via the scientific information service idw (Externer Linkwww.idw-online.de) and as a joint press release issued by the DFG and the German Council of Science and Humanities.

The press conference for the announcement of the new Clusters of Excellence will be held on 27 September 2018 beginning at approximately 4:00 pm at the Wissenschaftszentrum Bonn, room K1/K2, Ahrstraße 45, 53175 Bonn.
Accreditation is required to attend the press conference. Representatives of the media can register, stating their full name, the publication or media they represent (including the details of all accompanying persons in the case of TV crews), by sending an e-mail to Link auf E-Mailpresse@dfg.de by no later than 12 noon on Thursday, 27 September 2018. Registrations received later than this cannot be accepted.
A media centre will be available in room 152 (first floor) at the Wissenschaftszentrum Bonn prior to the start of the press conference.
Photography and filming are only possible prior to the start of the Excellence Commission’s meeting at 9:00 am and during the press conference. There will be no opportunity for recording or interviews during the meeting.
