Equal Opportunity Measures in Individual Funding Programmes
The DFG offers a number of specific measures in its funding programmes to promote equal opportunity for women and men. These are designed to achieve the following objectives:
- To increase the number of female researchers at project management level
- To support female early career researchers working in research networks in pursuing a research career
- To make research institutions more family-friendly workplaces
Individual Grants
Research Grants
In this case, a researcher is awarded research funding, sometimes jointly with other researchers, for a project they have designed themselves. Funding in the Emmy Noether Programme (early career support) and for temporary positions for principal investigators is also awarded in the form of individual research grants. In this programme, we support equal opportunity through:

The family allowance module can also be applied for in the Emmy Noether Programme.
Fellowships
With this type of funding, an individual receives financial resources to conduct research within the scope of a fellowship and to cover their living expenses. Fellowships are awarded in the following DFG programmes: research fellowships outside Germany, return grants, Heisenberg fellowships.

Coordinated Programmes
The DFG operates two different types of coordinated programmes. There are programmes in which individual researchers can be applicants and programmes in which proposals must be submitted by research institutions.
