New Opportunities to Cooperate with Japanese Scientists
The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) is opening up their CREST Programme (Core Research for Evolutional Science and Technology) for international cooperation. In line with this scheme, JST and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) are looking for new possibilities of bilateral research funding for collaborative research among Japanese CREST projects and DFG funded coordinated programmes like Priority Programmes, Research Units, and Collaborative Research Centres. This type of bilateral research funding may not be suitable for individual research grants. A list of currently funded CREST Programmes is available at the JST’s homepage.
In case you have already cooperated with Japanese researchers from these programmes or are interested in doing so, feel free to contact Dr. Jörg Schneider who is in charge of international relations with Japan at the DFG Head Office in Bonn. Together with the DFG Head Office and in close communication with the JST in Tokyo, he will check whether bilateral research funding is possible.
Please take note of the individual funding periods of the CREST programmes as they cannot be extended. If collaborative funding is to be achieved, there should be an overlap of funding periods of at least one year.
In case your research groups are generally open to cooperation with such coordinate programmes in Japan, but the current CREST programmes don’t match your research area, please let us know and we will inform you of upcoming new CREST Programmes.
Please keep in mind that JST-CREST will fund projects mainly in the Natural Sciences, Life Sciences and Engineering Sciences.
