The booth visitor with the longest journey.

Research in Germany” Booth Attracts Large Turnout at the 2016 AGU Fall Meeting in San Francisco

(20.12.16) Between 12 and 16 December 2016, the DFG, the DAAD and the American Friends of the AvH, together with 14 geosciences research institutions, ran a shared exhibition booth at the Fall Meeting of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) in San Francisco, USA. The entertaining event ‘Best Failures – The Funniest Experiences from Science’ attracted numerous visitors to what was already a very popular booth. The careers information provided as part of the AGU International Career Fair and the Leibniz Lecture, including a German Social, also proved to be visitor magnets.

The 46th Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuroscience

(11/22/16) November 13-16, 2016 the impressive waterfront conference center in San Diego was host to over 30,000 neuroscientists from across the globe attending the 46th Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuroscience. Staff onsite included numerous representatives from German Clusters of Excellence in Neuroscience (LMU Munich), the Einstein Center for Neuroscience (Berlin), the German Graduate Schools for Neuroscience and the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience, along with the “Research in Germany” participants: the American Friends of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Center for Research and Innovation and the German Research Foundation (DFG).

(03.11.16) At this year’s Fall Meeting of the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the “Research in Germany” initiative will once more have a large scale and diverse presence. At the joint information booth, numerous institutions will provide information about research and career opportunities in German geosciences and environmental sciences. Informative and entertaining special events as well as a DFG Leibniz Lecture and a German Social invite you to network and exchange ideas.

Successful First Research in Germany Science Lunch in Brazil

(19.10.16) During the 25th annual meeting of the Brazilian Materials Research Society (SBPMat), which took place from 25 to 29 September in Campinas near São Paulo, the DFG Office Latin America invited representatives from the Research in Germany initiative to attend and organised the first Science Lunch. With international participation and symposia in nanomaterials and synthesis, characterisation and modelling, energy and sustainability, electronics and photonics, and biomaterials and soft matter, the conference addressed current developments and perspectives in materials science and technology.

“Research in Germany” Initiative at the Oceanography Congress in Salvador

(19.10.2016) The seventh edition of the Brazilian Oceanography Congress will take place from 5 to 9 November in Salvador, the capital of Brazil’s northeastern state of Bahia. This year’s event will focus on the topics of ocean acidification, natural marine resources, paleoceanography, and man and ocean and on teaching and the labour market in the marine science sector in relation to climate change and its impact on the ocean and coastal regions.

"Research in Germany” Offers Information Service at Intercom Congress in São Paulo

(07.10.16) In the second week of September, the institution Intercom, founded in 1977 in São Paulo, held its 39th annual congress at the School of Communication and Arts of the University of São Paulo (ECA/USP). The event was organised by the Brazilian Society of Interdisciplinary Communication Studies (Sociedade Brasileira de Estudos Interdisciplinares da Comunicação), which promotes the exchange of knowledge between researchers and practitioners in the communication sector.

Huge interest in the “Research in Germany” stand at the IGC

(23.09.16) The “Research in Germany” stand was in great demand at the International Geological Congress in Cape Town. The initiative appeared alongside the German bid to host the congress in 2024 in Berlin.

Research in Germany Delegation at the 252nd American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition (ACS) 2016 in Philadelphia, USA

(26.08.16) Between 21 and 23 August 2016, German research and research funding organisations teamed up with the German Chemical Society (GDCh) to showcase research opportunities in Germany at the American Chemical Society’s 252nd national meeting. Under the umbrella of the BMBF Research in Germany initiative, the delegation hosted an information stand and a Science Lunch, providing information and answering questions about chemistry research and career paths in Germany.

“Research in Germany” and Bid IGC Berlin 2024 at the 35th International Geological Congress (IGC) in South Africa

(17.08.16) At the world renowned quadrennial congress in the field of geology, the initiative “Research in Germany” will be appearing alongside the German bid for the congress in the year 2024 in Berlin. The joint booth provides information about both research and career opportunities as well as geological sites and research infrastructure in Germany.

“Research in Germany” at Annual Congress of the Brazilian Umbrella Organisation for Experimental Biology

(01.08.16) From 29 August until 1 September, the Research in Germany initiative will be present at the 31st annual congress of FESBE, the umbrella organisation which brings together various learned societies in the field of experimental biology, in Foz do Iguaçu in the southern Brazilian state of Paraná. The organisations represented through FESBE include learned societies for biophysics, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, physiology and immunology.

“Research in Germany” at the 7th European Congress of Mathematics in Berlin (7ECM)

(29.07.16) Between 18 and 22 July, the 7th European Congress of Mathematics (7ECM) brought together some 1,400 mathematicians from Germany and abroad at Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin). In 2016, the ECM, which is held every four years, was organised by the Association of German Mathematicians (DMV), the International Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (GAMM), the Einstein Center for Mathematics Berlin (ECMath) and two DFG-funded institutions, Research Center Matheon and the Berlin Mathematical School (BMS).

Research in Germany highlights German research in the field of manufacturing technology at MSEC 2016

(25.07.16) Virginia Tech welcomed more than 600 researchers to Blacksburg, VA for this year’s International Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference (MSEC 2016). The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) attended the conference as part of the “Research in Germany” (RiG) initiative and organized both an information booth in the exhibit hall and a “RiG Science Lunch” for the participants.

„Research in Germany“ at the 7th European Congress of Mathematics (7ECM)

(14.07.16) Visit “Research in Germany” “at home” at this year’s European Congress of Mathematics in Berlin: Representatives of several German funding organizations and scientists of outstanding German research institutions and research training groups will be present to answer individual questions at a collaborative booth organized under the auspices of the "Research in Germany - Land of Ideas" initiative.

“Research in Germany” Participates in the Mexico-Germany Dual Year

(04.07.16) The Year of Germany in Mexico was officially launched by Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Germany’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, in Mexico City at the beginning of June. As part of the year's activities, the “Research in Germany” initiative will once again be represented at the XXV International Materials Research Congress (IMRC) at the JW Marriott conference hotel in Cancún.


 

II. Quarter 2016

„Research in Germany“ at the National Fall Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS)

(15.06.16) “Research in Germany” will once again participate in the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society (ASC), the largest international conference in the field of chemistry. Renowned researchers and representatives of German funding organizations will be present at the booth in the exhibit hall as well as at the Science Lunch in order to discuss research and funding opportunities in Germany in the field of chemistry.

Research in Germany at the International Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference (MSEC 2016) of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

(19.05.16) The 11th ASME International Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference (MSEC 2016) along with the 44th Annual North American Manufacturing Research Conference (NAMRC 44) will jointly be hosted by the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University from June 27 through July 1, 2016 at the Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center in Blacksburg, Virginia.

"Research in Germany" at the International Heart Research Conference in Buenos Aires for the First Time

(26.04.16) The DFG was represented in the "Research in Germany" team which attended the 22nd International Heart Research Conference of the International Society for Heart Research (ISHR) in Buenos Aires from 18-21 April 2016. The motto for the event, which was held for the first time in Latin America, was "Unraveling the Mysteries of the Heart at the Rhythm of Tango". Approximately 500 delegates were registered to attend the conference.

"Research in Germany" at the 22nd Conference of the International Society for Heart Research

(06.04.16) The 22nd Conference of the International Society for Heart Research (ISHR) will take place from 18 to 21 April in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. The National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET), one of the DFG's Argentinian partner organisations, is one of the supporters of the event.

The extended joint booth attracted interested and inspired many profound conversations

First collaborative “Research in Germany“ presence at the American Physical Society (APS) March Meeting 2016

(22.03.16) From March 14 to March 17, 2016, German research and funding organizations under the auspices of the BMBF-initiative were for the first time present collaboratively at the worldwide largest meeting in the field of physics. They won over many visitors with a joint booth, a Science Lunch and a convincing range of consultancy services.

(18.02.16) Experimental Biology is a multidisciplinary scientific meeting featuring plenary and award lectures, pre-meeting workshops, oral and poster sessions, on-site career services and exhibits.

(09.02.16) The "Research in Germany" initiative has teamed up with outstanding German research institutions to present the German research landscape in the field of physics.
