(06/27/22) More than 5,400 guests visited the Franco-German joint booth as part of the EU Open House. Along with various partners, the DFG office provided information about Germany as an excellent research location.

After a pandemic-related two-year hiatus, it was that time again on the morning of May 14: the German Embassy in Washington opened its doors to participate in the "EU Open House 2022" event. The DFG shared a booth on the embassy grounds with the German Academic Exchange Service, the American Friends of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the German Aerospace Center, the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience, the German Historical Institute, Germany Trade and Invest, and the Science Section of the German Embassy. In addition to the science section, the German Armed Forces, the Goethe Institute and the German International School Washington D.C. also introduced themselves.

As in previous years, the event was co-hosted by Germany and France. In the beautifully situated garden of the German Embassy, culinary specialties from both countries, live music and numerous hands-on activities awaited the visitors, so it was no surprise that long lines formed in front of the Embassy gates from 9:00 a.m. onwards. The joint stand of the science organizations also benefited from the crowds. Since the EU Open House is aimed at a very broad target audience, it is a good opportunity to promote Germany as a science location with a comparatively broad impact.
