DFG Presence at 25th International Conference on Raman Spectroscopy

DFG-Präsenz bei 25. International Conference on Raman Spectroscopy

(02.08.16) The DFG is to participate in the 25th International Conference on Raman Spectroscopy (ICORS), represented by the director of the DFG Office Latin America, Dr. Kathrin Winkler. The conference takes place from 14 to 19 August in Fortaleza, the capital of the state of Ceará in north-east Brazil, and will be hosted for the first time by the Federal University of Ceará (UFC). ICORS is the leading international event in the field of Raman research, one of the most important areas in photonics.

Within this framework, on Wednesday 17 August, starting at 2pm, the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (Leibniz IPHT) in Jena is hosting a workshop on the topic “Photonic Technologies in Healthcare” to encourage scientific and technological progress in this sector and promote dialogue and collaboration between leading representatives of Brazilian and German research institutions. Kathrin Winkler will give a talk on the possibilities for international scientific collaboration and research funding and will be available to answer individual questions.

The Leibniz IPHT, the DFG and the German House for Research and Innovation - São Paulo, which is sponsoring the Leibniz Institute’s participation, will also take part in the accompanying industry and science exhibition at ICORS 2016. At the joint stand, participants can find out about research funding and collaboration as well as the research fields, current research projects and infrastructure of the IPHT and the Leibniz-based research group “Medical Technology”.

An exhibit presented by the Leibniz IPHT, the Bio Particle Explorer, which allows microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and yeasts to be quickly and reliably identified, won the Innovation Village Award at Photonics Europe 2014 in Brussels.
