(06.04.16) The 22nd Conference of the International Society for Heart Research (ISHR) will take place from 18 to 21 April in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. The National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET), one of the DFG's Argentinian partner organisations, is one of the supporters of the event.

The event will address current topics in heart research from an integrative perspective with the aim of encouraging closer engagement between basic research and clinical practice, which has the potential to open up future prospects for the research area. With this in mind, the scientific committee has put together a programme of first-class symposiums and specialist presentations. A lecture by the Nobel prizewinner Dr. Robert Lefkowitz on day 3 of the conference will be a particular highlight.

The "Research in Germany" initiative will have an information stand on site throughout the week in the foyer of the venue, the Universidad Católica Argentina, which is located in the Puerto Madero area of the city. Representatives of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) and the Max Planck Society (MPG) will advise delegates on research funding opportunities in Germany. Furthermore, there will be symposiums hosted by the "Early Career Investigator" event on day 1 of the conference and a networking lunch where the German institutions will also be represented.

On 20 April from 5 pm to 7 pm there will be an information event entitled "Research in Germany – Fellowships, Exchange and Collaboration Programmes". The winner of the American Heart Association (AHA)'s "Outstanding Investigator Award", Professor Dr. Johannes Backs from Heidelberg University Hospital, will give an overview, with practical references, of the research carried out in Germany in this area and inform the audience about career and funding opportunities in Germany.
