Research in Germany Attends 11th International Plant Molecular Biology Congress

„Research in Germany“ nimmt an XI. International Plant Molecular Biology Kongress teil

(07.10.15) The 11th International Congress of Plant Molecular Biology will take place on 25 - 30 October in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. The congress is being held for the first time in South America and, because of the countries' geographical proximity, will be jointly organised by Brazil and Argentina. The supporters of the event include the DFG's Brazilian and Argentinian partner organisations: CNPq, CAPES, FAPESP, MINCyT and CONICET. During the congress, speakers will present new findings in molecular biology and the scientific community will have the chance to participate in interdisciplinary discussion on how to tackle current challenges such as population growth and climate change. There will be a special focus on the dialogue between graduates and early career researchers and their established colleagues.

The Research in Germany initiative will be present throughout the week with an information stand in the exhibition area of the conference venue, the Bourbon Cataratas hotel. Representatives of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the DFG will be there to advise on research funding opportunities in Germany and are also holding an information event entitled "Research in Germany – Fellowships, Exchange and Collaboration Programmes", which will take the form of a lunch session between 12.30pm and 2pm on 29 October. Rita Gross-Hardt, professor of molecular genetics at the University of Bremen, and Professor Olaf Kruse, scientific director of the Center for Biotechnology (CeBiTec) at the University of Bielefeld, have been invited to give a general outline of German research in their specialist fields and to tell the audience about career and funding opportunities in Germany.

Key information at a glance:

  • Advice at the Research in Germany information stand: Representatives of the DAAD and the DFG will offer individual advice on funding for graduates, research visits and Collaborative Research Centres.
