Study and Research in Germany – Programmes for Fellowships and Project Funding

(25.02.14) On 13 February 2014 in São Paulo, an event entitled "Estudar e pesquisar na Alemanha. Programas de bolsa e fomento" was held as part of the Max Planck Science Tunnel. The event was one of several sequences of institutional information sessions in connection with the presentation of the Max Planck Science Tunnel in São Paulo. The DFG was represented by liaison scientist Prof. Dr. Helmut Galle. There was an audience of over 100 people.

To open the event, the participating research and research funding organisations from Brazil and Germany introduced themselves: CNPq (represented by Maria da Fátima Battaglin), German Academic Exchange Service (Dr. Martin Gegner), DFG (Prof. Dr. Helmut Galle), Fraunhofer Society (Andrea Mandalka), Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Nora Jacobs) and Max Planck Society (Dr. Andreas Trepte, Buenos Aires).

This was followed by a podium discussion with university representatives from DWIH São Paulo: Technical University of Munich (represented by Sören Metz), Free University of Berlin (Dr. Christiana Peters), UAMR (Dr. Stephan Hollensteiner) and UAS7 (Dr. Christoph Schamm). The discussion was moderated by Christian Müller, director of the DAAD Branch Office in Rio. The representatives each presented a profile of their respective institutions and discussed the opportunities offered in the Science without Borders programme (Ciências sem Fronteiras).

Finally, Prof. Dr. Jan Michael Rost (Technical University of Dresden) delivered a thought-provoking lecture on Complex Systems and Sustainability to an interested and knowledgeable audience.
