Das Kulturwissenschaftliche Forschungskolleg "Norm und Symbol. Die kulturelle Dimension sozialer und politischer Integration"/Sonderforschungsbereich 485 untersucht die Funktion normativer Konstrukte in ihrer symbolischen Repräsentation in Aufbau, Reproduktion und Veränderung sozialer Ordnung.
Am Forschungsverbund beteiligen sich 18 Teilprojekte aus den Fächern Geschichte, Soziologie, Literaturwissenschaft, Philosophie, Rechts- und Politikwissenschaft. Auf Themenfeldern von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart erforschen sie:
-- die normativen Grundlagen der Vergesellschaftung,
-- die symbolische Repräsentation des Normativen und der Strukturen,
-- die sozialen und historischen Determinanten symbolisch vermittelter Integration.
Wir beobachten Soziales in seinen historischen Erscheinungsformen als Kommunikationszusammenhang. Daraus ergibt sich die Konzentration des Forschungsverbundes auf symbolische Repräsentationen des kulturellen Sinns. In der Organisation der Forschungskooperation operationalisieren wir diesen kommunikationstheoretischen Begriff des Sozialen, indem wir der "Reichweite" soziale Integrationsprozesse Beachtung schenken. Entsprechend formieren die Teilprojekte drei Arbeitsbereiche: (A) Formen und Symbolik gesellschaftlicher Identitätsbildung, (B)Formen und Symbolik der Herrschaft, (C)Formen und Symbolik der Identitätsbildung sozialer Gruppen.
The humanities collaborative research centre 485 "Norm and Symbol. The Cultural Dimension of Social and Political Integration" examines the function of normative constructs in their symbolic representation with respect to the construction, reproduction and the change of social order.
The research centre comprises eighteen projects from the subjects History, Sociology, Literature, Philosophy, Law and Political Science. In subject areas from the antiquity to the present they research:
-- the normative foundation of society,
-- the symbolic representation of the normative and of structures,
-- the social and historical determinants of symbolically mediated integration.
The social is observed in its historical forms as created by communication. Consequently, the research centre concentrates on the cultural meaning of symbolic representations. This concept of communication is operationalised in the organisation of the research centre by observing the "scope" of integration processes. Accordingly, the projects form three study areas: (A) Forms and Symbolism of Social Identity Formation, (B) Forms and Symbolism of Power and Rule, (C) Forms and Symbolism of the Identity Formation of Social Groups.
