In Brief

Name of Prize

The Albert Maucher Prize in Geoscience

Type of Prize

An individual prize for outstanding geoscientific research, usually awarded every three years.

Purpose

The award is given to young geoscientists (up to about 35 years of age) who have achieved outstanding research results “even using unconventional methods”. In order to be considered for the prize, researchers must have initiated their own projects and carried them out independently.

Number and Value of Awards

One or two prizewinners receive 10,000 euros from the fund established by the Munich geologist Albert Maucher, who received funding from the DFG during the early stages of his scientific career.

Selection of Prizewinners

The prizewinners are chosen by the Senate Commission on Future Challenges in Geosciences. Their decision is based on recommendations made by a jury appointed by the DFG Head Office. The Executive Board of the DFG is informed of the results.

Nomination Deadlines

The prize is publicly announced and a deadline is set. Members of the DFG’s geoscientific Review Boards and Leibniz prizewinners from the field of geosciences are eligible to nominate prizewinners.

Documents Required

Documents which provide detailed evidence of previous scientific achievements (such as doctoral dissertations, manuscripts and offprints) and of planned research should be submitted for review. CVs in tabular form, lists of publications, etc, may also be submitted.
