Max Kade Foundation Fellowship Programme


Purpose

To enable applicants from the fields of natural sciences and medicine to apply for a one-year research stay in the USA.

Eligibility Requirements

Postdoctoral scientists and young researchers under the age of 45 with above-average qualifications who have proven themselves in their fields through several years of research.

Proposal Requirements

The host institutions are selected by the applicants themselves. Applicants are personally responsible for procuring their own jobs. Research stays at institutes outside the university sector cannot, as a rule, be supported. This applies in particular to scientific museums and major research institutions (national laboratories). The following types of proposals cannot be considered: proposals from researchers who are already in the USA; proposals whose completion will require third-party follow-up funding; and proposals submitted in parallel to the DFG and third-party funding agencies. Proposals should be submitted in triplicate and include the information requested in the guidelines.

Type and Extent of Funding

The following fellowship amounts currently apply:
  • Basic fellowship  US $ 35,800
  • Travel allowance including return journey US $   1,000
  • Study trips within the USA and allowance for direct project costs US $   1,500
  • Spousal allowance US $   1,000
  • Travel allowance per child  US $ 500

Travel grants for accompanying family members can only be awarded if the family members accompany the applicant for the entire duration of the fellowship.
