German-Israeli Project Cooperation


Purpose

The aim of this programme, which was inaugurated in 1997 by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF), is to strengthen excellence in German- Israeli research cooperation and to give substantial support to joint projects of outstanding quality.

Eligibility Requirements

The following Israeli institutions are eligible to submit up to two proposals per year:

 

  • Bar-Ilan University
  • Ben-Gurion University of the Negev
  • The University of Haifa
  • The Hebrew University of Jerusalem
  • Tel Aviv University
  • Technion – The Israel Institute of Technology
  • Weizmann Institute of Science

The Research Authorities of these institutions are responsible for the internal selection process and for the formal correctness of the final submission. Scientists and researchers working in the German scientific community are eligible to take part in the individual projects as cooperation partners but they are not eligible to submit a proposal themselves. Scientists and researchers working at non-university institutions are not required to include cooperation with colleagues at a university.

 

Type and Extent of Funding

Type: research grant

Extent: Staff and travel expenses, funds for scientific equipment and consumables. The total amount to be applied for in each individual project may amount to a total of 1,655,000 EUR.

 

Funding Duration

As a rule, funding is provided for five years (mid-term report after 2.5 years).

Proposal Deadlines

The deadline for the submission of proposals by the Research Authorities to the DFG is 31 March of any year.
