Information on the Call for Proposals "Digitisation of Archival Sources"

The purpose of the call is to achieve significantly improved access to archival sources for research through digitisation and to bring these sources together in the Archive portal D and the German Digital Library.

Material for digitisation needs to be selected in the following three main areas to make materials relevant for research available to the various scientific disciplines, respond to existing demand from the research community and provide a relatively fast and cost-effective entry into large-scale and structured digitisation:

  • Digitisation of microfilmed archival materials produced as part of the national microfilm preservation programme. Microfilms from supplementary preservation programmes can also be incorporated if their quality can be demonstrated to be suitable for digitisation.

  • Digitisation of complete inventories, or appropriately delimited partial inventories, of files and official record books from the 19th and 20th centuries.

  • Digitisation of pictorial materials, such as certificates, plans, posters, pictures and photographs.

In addition to the national importance of the material to be digitised, other research-related and archival criteria must be taken into consideration when selecting material.

Interested persons are asked to submit a letter of intent by 28 February 2018.

Funding proposals can be submitted until 30 May 2018. It is intended to issue another call for proposals for the digitisation of archival sources.
