Information about the funding programme "Acquisition of Closed Bequests and Collections"

This funding programme allows academic libraries and archives to apply for financial support to acquire valuable collections and bequests. For this programme the DFG receives annual funding from the not-for-profit Donors’ Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany. Grants are only awarded for the acquisition of collections or bequests which are scientifically relevant, consist of closed collections, and contain material usually held by academic archives and libraries. Funding is not available for the acquisition of museum objects (such as artisan crafts, archaeological finds and paintings).

It is assumed that collections, once acquired, can be made available to any interested researcher for the purposes of scientific examination and that the applicant institution will make the collection or bequest accessible in accordance with the relevant standards as soon as possible after the acquisition. The applicant is also expected to make an appropriate financial contribution of its own that reflects the institution's interest in the acquisition of the collection. Applications can be submitted at any time.
