NIH-DFG Research Career Transition Awards Program
NIH-DFG Research Career Transition Awards Program
The DFG and the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) have initiated a joint funding program. The NIH-DFG Research Career Transition Awards will enable young scientists to pursue research over a consecutive period of five to six-years, beginning at one of the NIH institutes in the USA and continuing at a German research institution. Postdoctoral researchers who have received their doctorates no later than four years prior to proposal submission are eligible to apply.
The first funding phase consists of a minimum of two, maximum three-year stay at one of 17 NIH institutes. Funding for this phase, which should be arranged independently with the host institute, will mainly be provided by the NIH. The second phase, which consists of a two to three-year research period in Germany, will be funded by the DFG.
Program Modification
Scientists currently working at the NIH are also eligible to apply to the program, provided that they have not been there for more than 24 months. After that time a proposal can no longer be submitted.
