DFG Relaunches www.dfg.de

Updated Website Presents Research Funding Opportunities and Results in New Corporate Design

On 18 January 2010 the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) unveiled its new website to the public. At the DFG's New Year's reception in Berlin, DFG President Professor Matthias Kleiner said, "The website offers a more streamlined structure that is aligned with our target and reference groups and features the new corporate design of the DFG."

Applicants and research institutions in particular will benefit from direct access to funding information. In addition, the new Magazine section expands reporting on DFG-funded research and science-policy topics.

The website, www.dfg.de, is divided into four main sections. The press page and service offerings have been considerably expanded. Below is a summary of the individual sections:

  • The "Funding" section is at the heart of the site. Here, users will find concise information on all aspects of funding as well as direct access to the electronic proposal submission system "elan". Frequently asked questions (FAQs), contact information and background information on the programmes round out the section.

  • The "Funded Projects" section provides an overview of everything that the DFG makes possible through its funding. This includes the research instruments for funded projects, "GEPRIS" and "Research Explorer", as well as funding initiatives and project groups of the DFG. In addition, this section introduces prize recipients and offers extensive access to publications related to research funding.

  • The "DFG in Profile" section presents the structure, mission and history of the DFG. Here, users will find organisational charts of committees and the Head Office. Furthermore, it offers a quick overview of contact persons and subject structures.

  • The "DFG Magazine" is topic oriented and takes a journalistic approach to addressing the core areas of the DFG's work. Headings here include "Research Careers", "International Focus" and "Research Policy".

The English version of the website has the same basic structure as the German version. More so than in the past, the focus is on international target groups, and corresponding topics and information have moved to the forefront. Calls for proposals, news and reports with international relevance are more specifically addressed within the information structure, and DFG offices abroad can now be accessed directly via the homepage.

The new website was developed by a project team together with staff from all areas of the DFG Head Office. Partner for design and technical questions is Babiel GmbH, based at Düsseldorf.
