Research Explorer – The German Research Directory
The Research Explorer, a web-based application developed jointly with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), provides a unique directory of German research institutes. It offers systematic, focused and comprehensive information on all types of German research institutions and can be accessed at no charge from anywhere in the world.
In the Research Explorer, internet users find over 17,000 research institutes and can search them by subject-specific, regional or structural criteria. Contact data and web addresses of all institutes are continually updated by the DFG. Available in German as well as English, the Research Explorer targets both national and international audiences.
GEPRIS – German Project Information System
The Research Explorer is linked directly with the DFG’s project database GEPRIS, which was established in 1999. GEPRIS provides short summaries of current DFG-funded research projects. The database can be searched by project keywords as well as by participating research institutes and persons. GEPRIS’s searchable data comprises over 50,000 projects, 35,000 individuals and over 17,000 institutes. Users can also search by state or browse the alphabetic catalogue. They can save their search history under the “My GEPRIS” tab. Search results can be regularly updated by the push of a button and are also downloadable as PDF documents.
GEPRIS is aimed not only at researchers but also at laypersons with an interest in science and the humanities, as well as journalists, teachers, politicians and business executives. Journalists can use the database to find experts on a certain topic; business executives can use it to identify promising contacts for innovative product developments.
