Excellence Initiative Grants Committee
The Excellence Initiative Grants Committee was established on the basis of the 23 June 2005 agreement by the German Federal-State Commission for Educational Planning and Research Promotion. The Grants Committee considers proposals for the three types of funding provided for in the initiative, i.e. graduate schools, clusters of excellence, institutional strategies to promote top-level research. It acts on the recommendations of a Joint Commission established by the DFG and the German Council of Science and Humanities.
The Grants Committee is composed of members of the Joint Commission and federal and state ministers responsible for science and research. Members of the Joint Commission have 1.5 votes each, state ministers have one vote each, and the federal minister has sixteen votes.
Funding decisions will be announced jointly by the federal and state research ministers.
