Policy Advice

The DFG gives policy advice to parliaments, governments and public institutions on scientific issues. As the voice of science in political and social discourse, it counsels and partakes in political decision making processes with scientific expertise. With the deliberations of its Senate Commissions and the publication of its findings, the DFG makes recommendations concerning fundamental issues in science and concerning the responsible application of scientific findings in society.

For this purpose, its regulations on good scientific practice provide internationally recognised guidelines.

Additional Information

The DFG has established various expert commissions and committees to meet the responsibility of counselling parliaments and public authorities on questions relating to science. They perform a double function. On the one hand, they advise the DFG's decision-making bodies, while, on the other, they provide the scientific basis for the DFG's recommendations to parliaments, public authorities and the general public.
