The Committee for the Coordination of International Academic Relations (AKA) includes representatives of the major German science and research organisations and meets twice per year. Its purpose is to facilitate informal discussions on current developments in international cooperations, develop ideas for joint strategic initiatives and coordinate activities of all member organisations. At present, the AKA's secretariat is run by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The DFG is one of the 13 member organisations.
