European Starting and Advanced Grant Opportunities for Research in Europe  

(11/12/10) On November 20, U.S. and international researchers will learn about the European Research Council’s funding opportunities for research in Europe. A Leibniz Lecture by renowned neurobiologist Hannah Monyer entitled “A Walk Down Memory’s Path” will follow.

STEM 2010 Postdoc Conference and Career Fair July 22, 2010

(08/12/10) The Rockville Economic Development, Inc. this year again organized a conference and career fair for postdocs located in greater Washington, DC area in science, technology, economics and mathematics (STEM).

Jefferson Postdoctoral Research Symposium

(06/15/10) On June 15, the DFG participated for the first time in Thomas Jefferson University's Postdoctoral Research Symposium. 

German Center for Research and Innovation (GCRI) Informational Luncheon Discussion in Washington, DC

(04/14/10) On Wednesday, April 14, 2010 the DFG invited its Washington community to a luncheon presentation about the German Center for Research and Innovation (GCRI) in New York. The approximately 25 representatives from partner organizations: NSF, NIH, NEH; German business organizations: RGIT, GTAI; German/European funding agencies: DLR, AvH, Delegation of the European Union; and attachés of Science & Technology from various embassies listened to and participated in the discussion. The goal was to introduce the concept of the GCRI and discuss synergies and potential collaboration with DC constituencies. Dr. Marion Müller, Director of the DFG – North America Office began by welcoming the guests and featured speakers Dr. Joann Halpern, Director of Programs and Strategic Outreach of the GCRI, New York and Dr. Sebastian Fohrbeck, Director of the DAAD, New York.

Opening of the German Center for Research and Innovation in New York

(03/26/10) German research and innovation now have an address in North America. On Friday, February 19, 2010, the Federal Research Minister, Prof. Dr. Annette Schavan and Ambassador Dr. Klaus Scharioth, together with the President of the German Research Foundation (DFG), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Kleiner, and the Vice President of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Max Huber, opened the German Center for Research and Innovation (GCRI) in New York.

AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship Luncheon Presentation

(01/30/10) On January 26, 2010 a small group from various embassies and international funding organizations gathered for lunch at the DFG Washington office to hear a presentation on AAAS Science Policy Fellowships. Christian Jörgens, Minister-Counselor, Head of Section Science and Technology greeted the group and introduced Vicky Rahamatali (AAAS), Senior Manager for Outreach and Communications, Science and Technology Policy Fellowship, and Science and Policy Programs.

DFG at the MIT European Career Fair - booth and workshops

(01/22/10) Over 30 German universities, research institutions and funding agencies will come together to present themselves in the "German Cluster" at the upcoming European Career Fair.
