Liaison Scientists in Latin America
The DFG has been cooperating with liaison scientists in Latin America since mid-2006. Brazil and Chile show the greatest potential in Latin America for research and cooperation with the DFG. The liaison scientists network with the major local research institutions and partner organisations, provide information about the DFG’s funding activities, support the DFG in identifying the most outstanding research groups and young researchers, and act as contact persons and representatives for the DFG.
DFG Liaison Scientists- Aim to increase the level of awareness of the DFG and Germany as a centre of research abroad and to “advertise” the funding opportunities and programmes offered by the DFG.
- Act as contact persons for those scientists in their own country who are interested in cooperating with researchers in Germany. They can also contribute knowledge of their own country and the experience they have gained through continuous observation of developments in cooperation-relevant research policy.
- Support the bilateral exchange of scientists.
- Consolidate contacts with the partner organisations in their country.
- Organise regular information events about the DFG and Germany as a centre of research.
The DFG’s cooperation with liaison scientists in Brazil began in November 2006.
In July 2006, Professor Gudrun Kausel from the Universidad Austral de Chile in Valdivia took up her post as the first DFG liaison scientist in Chile.
