(01.08.16) From 29 August until 1 September, the Research in Germany initiative will be present at the 31st annual congress of FESBE, the umbrella organisation which brings together various learned societies in the field of experimental biology, in Foz do Iguaçu in the southern Brazilian state of Paraná.
The organisations represented through FESBE include learned societies for biophysics, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, physiology and immunology. The aim of the association is to advance scientific development in Brazil through combined efforts and joint representation.
This year’s event will be held at the Bourbon Cataratas conference hotel and is being sponsored by the DFG's partner organisations in Brazil, CAPES, CNPq, FAPERJ and FAPESP. Up to 2000 attendees are expected, including students, graduates and researchers from the scientific community in Brazil and abroad. The aim is to provide them with a forum to discuss scientific results, establish collaborations and create a multidisciplinary network. The FESBE annual congress also serves as a platform for science policy discussion to overcome obstacles in research work; this plays a particularly important role given the current situation in Brazil.
Representatives of the member institutions of the Research in Germany campaign will run an information stand, providing one-to-one advice on research visits to Germany and exchange and funding programmes, as well as handing out information material. On Wednesday 31 August between 12.30 pm and 2 pm there will also be an information event in the form of a lunch session, during which the DAAD and the DFG will present their funding programmes and answer participants’ questions. For this occasion, Professor Thomas Jentsch from the Leibniz-Institut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP) and the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) in Berlin has been invited to give a talk and share practical insights into research in Germany using concrete examples from his own career. Anyone who is interested in attending the event is invited to register by 26 August using the link below.
