(25.10.13) The fifth annual meeting of BRAGECRIM – the Brazilian-German Collaborative Research Initiative on Manufacturing Technology – took place from 30 September to 3 October 2013 at the Nucleus for Advanced Manufacturing (NUMA) at the University of São Paulo in São Carlos.

The fifth BRAGECRIM annual meeting was opened by the President of the Brazilian Federal Agency for the Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES), Prof. Jorge Guimarães, Director at the Brazilian National Research Council (CNPq), Prof. Guilherme Sales Soares de Azevedo Melo, the Secretary of State for Science Technology and Innovation (MCTI), Prof. Alvaro Prata, the Director of the DFG Office Latin America in São Paulo, Dr. Dietrich Halm, and the German and Brazilian spokespersons for BRAGECRIM, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Tilo Pfeifer, RWTH Aachen University, and Prof. Dr. João Fernando Gomes de Oliveira from the Escola de Engenharia de São Carlos of the Universidade de São Paulo (USP). In the course of the two-day conference, the participating early career researchers introduced their ongoing projects in presentations and poster sessions. Representatives from ThyssenKrupp, Bosch Rexroth and the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer lectured on collaboration between research and industry. A key theme at the fifth annual meeting was the continuation of the initiative beyond 2014. At the end of the meeting, the funding organisations, CAPES and the DFG, announced a third funding period for BRAGECRIM in which it will be possible to fund projects with new partners.
