5. Annual meeting of BRAGECRIM – Brazilian German Collaborative Research Initiative in Manufacturing Technology

(28.08.13) The fifth annual meeting of BRAGECRIM – the Brazilian German Collaborative Research Initiative in Manufacturing Technology – will take place from 30 September to 3 October 2013 at the Nucleus for Advanced Manufacturing (NUMA) at the University of São Paulo in São Carlos.

BRAGECRIM was set up in 2009 and is funded jointly by the DFG, the Brazilian Federal Agency for the Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES) and the Brazilian National Research Council (CNPq). It is one of the largest German-Brazilian collaborative research initiatives and since the second project phase began in July 2012 it has funded a total of 21 projects at 16 German and 15 Brazilian universities and research institutions (see illustration). Over 150 researchers work on key issues affecting the whole product cycle; topics are drawn from areas such as manufacturing, metrology, logistics and materials science. The coordinators of the initiative in the second phase are Prof. Dr.-Ing. Tilo Pfeifer from RWTH Aachen University in Germany and Prof. Dr. João Fernando Gomes de Oliveira from the Escola de Engenharia de São Carlos of the Universidade de São Paulo.

The fifth annual meeting of BRAGECRIM will be opened by representatives of the three funding organisations and the project coordinators. In the course of the two-day conference, the participating researchers present their projects by giving talks, holding poster sessions and displaying exhibits. Representatives from ThyssenKrupp, Bosch-Rexroth and the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer also talk about cooperative ventures between research and industry using examples from BRAGECRIM. A key theme at the fifth annual meeting will be the continuation of the initiative beyond 2014.
